Canopy and Root Zone Inspections
The first step in determining the health and integrity of your tree is doing an inspection. This can be a straightforward visual inspection done by an experienced professional, or it can be a little more complicated. Sometimes it will be advisable to have our arborist do a full canopy inspection, during which he will evaluate canopy health and check any cavities in the tree. He will also inspect the root zone of the tree. Once again, this can be straightforward, but we also offer air spading services when necessary.
Pruning
If your tree needs to be pruned, you have come to the right place. Whether your goal is to provide clearance, remove decaying wood, or enhance the beauty of your tree, we can help you achieve your goals.
Keep in mind, many trees benefit from structural pruning while young. Think of it as one way of setting your trees up for success. Small pruning cuts made while the saplings are young will have a large impact on tree structure down the road. This reduces the need for larger, more intrusive pruning requirements in the future.
One practice we try avoid here at Raccoon River Tree Care is tree “topping.” This is when a significant portion of the canopy is removed, leaving the tree in a weakened condition. This is not the same as careful canopy reduction. Removing too much growth in a short time frame is extremely taxing for the tree, and we will work with you to find appropriate solutions.
Support Systems
Often, we encounter structural defects in mature trees, such as a cracked union. These can look intimidating but are not always cause for alarm. In many instances we can use cabling support systems to reduce the failure risk of these defects. When coupled with proper reduction pruning, a well installed and maintained support system can keep your tree strong and healthy for years. If you have questions about whether your tree could benefit from a support system, have our ISA Certified Arborist come take a look.
